Karl-Anthony Towns Set A Timberwolves Franchise Record With 56 Points
Kevin Durant, one of the greatest scorers of all time, has never dropped 56.
Steph Curry, one of the other greatest scorers of all time, has never dropped 56.
In fact, here is the list of active players to drop at least 56 in a game: Devin Booker, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, and now, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jr. For those still struggling to grasp this: that’s a fuck ton of points, and to do it on 59% from the floor (75%) from three makes it that much more preposterous.
Yeah, it happened against a shitty Hawks team trying to tank, but the Wolves just lost to a Memphis team in the same situation less than seven days ago. And for Towns to add in the 15 rebounds, along with his age, making it just another notch in his belt that only he and Shaq share shows just what kind of dominant offensive force we’re watching right now. Gentle reminder: last season Towns became the first player in NBA history with 2000 points, 1000 rebounds and 100 threes. Right now he’s leading the league in three point percentage by players averaging at least 20 points per game (43.7%). There will be plenty of shitty teams he’ll get to play against the rest of his career, if he never tops 56 I’d be truly surprised. Then again, Thibs is still his coach so he might not get another shot attempt the rest of the season.
PS – Ben Simmons knew.
